What we don't do.
- We don't ask for your name, email, age, or location.
- We don't sell or share anything to third parties beyond what's listed below.
- We don't have user accounts — there's nothing to log into and nothing to log out of.
- We don't have a server that stores your gameplay or custom prompts. Everything stays on your device.
What we do use.
To keep the site running and improving, we use a small number of standard tools — all of them aggregate, none of them tied to a name or account:
- Google Analytics 4 — anonymous page-view counts, country-level location, what browsers and devices people use, and which articles get read. We use this to know which pages are working and which aren't. GA4 sets cookies and uses an anonymous client ID. Google's privacy policy.
- Google Search Console — search-impression data from Google itself (no cookies on our side). Tells us what queries bring people in. No personal data.
- Cloudflare (our hosting) — server-side IP logs for basic security and abuse prevention. Standard for any website.
We never tie any of this back to a name, email, or identity. We don't have those — and we don't want them.
Opting out of analytics.
If you'd rather not be counted at all:
- Use any browser's "Do Not Track" / "Block third-party cookies" setting — most browsers offer this.
- Install a content blocker like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger; both block GA by default.
- Open the site once on wifi, then go offline — the game still works fully, and nothing reports back.
What we do store.
NIGHT BUS uses your browser's localStorage — a small space inside your phone — to remember:
- Custom "Most Likely To" questions you write (so they survive a refresh).
- Your language preferences and basic in-game settings.
This data lives on your device only. We can't see it. Clearing your browser data deletes it.
Third-party stuff.
We load a few things from the internet so the site works and stays free:
- Google Fonts — for the typography. Google may log your IP when their fonts load. Their privacy policy.
- Tailwind CSS CDN (cloudflare.com) — for styling. Same deal — Cloudflare may log your IP. Their privacy policy.
- Google AdSense — we serve ads to keep NIGHT BUS free. AdSense uses cookies and your browser data to show relevant ads. You can manage your ad preferences via Google's Ad Settings. How Google uses ad data.
If you want to avoid these entirely, run NIGHT BUS offline (open it once, then disable your wifi — it still works, and ads won't load).
About the ads.
NIGHT BUS shows ads in specific, non-disruptive places: at the bottom of the lobby, after a game ends (e.g., after the bomb explodes), and on landing/about pages. We never show ads:
- During active gameplay (no interruptions during Time Bomb, hold-to-reveal, countdowns).
- Above any "Play" or "Next" button (so you never tap an ad by mistake).
- As pop-ups, video interstitials, or anything that blocks the screen.
Ads pay our hosting bills. That's it. If you'd prefer no ads, we may add an optional one-time donation in the future.
If we ever change this.
If we add features that need to handle your data (multiplayer rooms, accounts, leaderboards), we'll update this page before shipping the feature, not after. And we'll make it equally short and equally honest.
Children.
NIGHT BUS is designed for backpackers aged 13+. We don't knowingly collect data from anyone under 13. The game is fully dares-only — every penalty is a small physical or social challenge, never a drink.
