Charades, but rebuilt for a hostel kitchen at midnight.

Forget the corporate party version. NIGHT BUS Charades runs on travel words you actually use, a real consequence for failure, and zero setup beyond passing the phone.

01 — REAL STAKES

Fail to make them guess in 60s? Dare.

No "score points" theatre. The describer is on the hook for one minute. If the group can't guess, that player draws a dare. Instant pressure, instant chaos.

02 — TRAVEL VOCABULARY

100 prompts, every one a backpacker thing.

Sleeper bus. Visa run. Sock on the door. Lonely stretch. Lost passport. The prompts come from inside the trip — your group will know all of them, but explaining them is another story.

03 — ANY SHAPE OF GROUP

3 to 12 players. Quiet to loud.

Works in a 3-person dorm bunk huddle, works in a 12-person hostel rooftop. The describer takes one, the rest are guessing. No teams, no roles, no setup.

Reverse culture shock

One describer. 60 seconds. Whole group guesses.

01

Pick a player

Phone randomly highlights one player as the describer. Pass the phone to them — and only them.

02

See the word

Describer sees the prompt privately. Tap START and the 60-second timer begins.

03

Describe

Talk, gesture, draw in the air — anything except saying the word, any part of it, or pointing at it. Group shouts guesses freely.

04

Win or dare

Group guesses correctly → tap GOT IT, next round, next describer. Timer hits zero with no correct guess → the describer draws a dare.

Three rules to keep it fair (and brutal).

RULE 01

Don't say the word.

Or any part of it. "Hostel bunk bed" — can't say bunk, bed, or hostel. If the describer slips, the round ends and they take a dare immediately. Group decides if a slip counts.

RULE 02

No spelling. No miming letters.

This isn't Hangman. You can act, gesture, describe, sing, dance, sound-effect — but you can't trace the letters in the air or say "rhymes with…". Real description only.

RULE 03

Group consensus on "got it."

One person yelling the right answer counts. If multiple people yell different things at once, describer picks the right shout. No appeals after the timer ends.

Try one of these next.

Try describing a sleeper bus without using the word "bus."
